If one adjustment changes your coffee more than any other, it's grind size. Too coarse and water rushes through, leaving a thin, sour cup. Too fine and it drags, turning bitter and muddy before the pour even finishes.
Start with your brew method. A pour-over like a V60 wants a grind close to table salt. A French press wants something closer to coarse sea salt. Espresso wants a grind fine enough to resist the pump's pressure, closer to powdered sugar.
Change one variable at a time. If your cup tastes sour or thin, grind finer. If it tastes bitter or heavy, grind coarser. Resist the urge to change your dose, water temperature, and grind size all at once — you'll never know what actually fixed it.
Taste, don't just time. A stopwatch tells you when a brew finished, not whether it tasted right. Use timing as a reference point, then let your palate make the final call.
A grinder with consistent, repeatable settings — like the ones we carry — makes this whole process faster, because you're only ever changing one thing at a time.
